Old Glory flies over a lone canon at Ft. Atkinson State Historical Park, Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska

Ft. Atkinson State Historical Park in Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska, hosts a living history weekend once a month fromĀ  May to November. Volunteers reenact happenings from the for that day of the month from historical logs. They teach visitors a little about how various activities of daily life were carried out. The soldiers fire the canon a few times, the blacksmiths make horseshoes and other necessities in their shop. Our kids really enjoy the adventure, especially the fresh bread and butter in the bakers area.
